Of course, you already know the possibilities are endless...

A Mason Jar

You know you have a bad obsession
when you DREAM about Mason Jars . . .

And who wouldn't die for this?
*sigh*

Yea. I guess it's gotten bad.

Mason Jar Lamp

Okay, okay . . . I know I'm at my limit with the "Mason Jar" posts . . . but I just can't help myself! I found this at a yard sale over spring break (for 3 bucks) with full intentions of putting it in the kitchen. However, when I got it in there, I realized it just didn't fit. It wasn't until I was outside pushing the little girl in the swing that it registered where it needed to be . . .

at least for right now, that is . . .

Thanks, Martha!

. . . well, at least I think I remember reading about this in her magazine . . .

This time of year . . . every year . . . we seem to attract those very obnoxious fruit flies. And, although the "drowning in red wine" method has been working all-right all these years . . . it was time for a better solution.

"Martha" says to roll up and tape a piece of card stock to act as a funnel. (I guess you could use an actual funnel, too? *smile* ) Then, place it in a fruit-filled jar/container.

Wouldn't you know it, not 10 minutes later I'd already caught my first one!

Thanks, Martha!

What DO Those Numbers Mean?

If you own any of those old blue "Ball Mason Jars," then you probably noticed the number on the bottom. Fleming pointed this out to me a while ago . . . and I've wondered about it ever since.
I found out that the blue "Ball Mason Jars" were made anywhere between 1888 and 1961. I guess it makes sense that each number either represents a specific glass blower or (later) a particular machine on which it was made. It is said, though, that the number 13 is the most valuable today because back in those days superstitious people were afraid to can in them, so they broke them or simply threw them away. The same is said about Moonshine Runners using Mason Jars. They too were superstitious and believed the number 13 would increase their risk of getting caught by the law.

Huh. Interesting.
I like them all, of course . . . but I guess I'll keep my eye out for the number 13!

Favorite Finds Friday

Old windows.

I can't tell you how often I use them! They have to be one of the most used thrift items I own.

In fact, my eye always seems to be drawn to them at The Habitat.

Evidently, I can't get enough.

Well . . . we did just clean out our garage . . .

Hanging Mason Jar Tutorial

I know, I know, there's a million "Hanging Mason Jar" tutorials out there . . . but what's a post without a tutorial! :)

I made a few of these as gifts this year, but I know I'll be making more in the future for myself. They're just too fun not to!

Here are your supplies.
(However, you probably don't need that much wire!
. . . surely Grady will need it for something . . .)

Start with about 2-3 feet of wire.

Go in about 8 inches or so and make a small loop with your pencil.
Wrap your wire around the bottom lip of the jar.
Then twist tightly with your pliers.
(I also came back and twisted the loop another time to really tighten it up.)

Lastly, bring the wire around, pull it through the loop
and twist it just like you did the other side.
