Organization Underway in the Playroom

Maybe you remember that mirror I found at the estate sale and painted...

here it hangs.

...right above those wire baskets from the Goodwill.

And, if you were wondering what's inside all those bins...
play thing, after play thing, after play thing...all courtesy of
Mrs. Marsh: Kindergarten Teacher.

This playroom is almost complete...just a few more things to hang until the final reveal!

Storing Your Garland

Okay, okay.  I'm SURE most of you have been done with packing away all your Christmas decorations for days now. Well, surprise, surprise . . . I am not. It's never a fun job, so I'm always willing to learn another quick and easy storage idea!

When we were at Grady's parent's before Christmas, Annie mentioned an easy way to store your garland . . . and I couldn't be more thankful!

And, for those of you that have been doing this for years, why haven't you told me?

Blog Post Trade-Off: Rose is a Rose

I'm so excited to introduce you to Ellie from Rose is a Rose!!  She has some of the most super fun ideas!  I was enthralled with her simple way of adding a little extra storage space to her little boy's room.

Hi, I'm Ellie from Rose is a Rose Designs I live in Texas with my husband, 2 year old son and dog Holly.  I'm a stay at home mom, crafter, sewer, DIY blog addict (self-diagnosed). I hope you'll check out my blog and become a fan as I post new tutorials, tips, deals, etc in the new year. We are welcoming another little boy into our family in about 5 weeks (YIKES!), so we were looking for a unique way to store baby books and maximize space in the baby room. Our goal was to not purchase ANY new furniture for his room and to do his nursery on a tight budget! My husband and I put our heads together and came up with a fun, unique way to double the use of an old dresser! We think it turned out great and wanted to share with ya'll to incorporate into your own home! I'm calling this tutorial Dresser DressUP!  I've had a great antique dresser that just kept getting re-painted and shoved in closets year after year.  Not quite the attention it deserved!  So 1 dresser, 1 spice rack, and a handy husband and this project was a GO.

Available here at Target.com
Here is the old beauty in the before stage (minus a couple drawers/knobs)

************************************************
We decided to divide the spice rack so that we'd have 3 separate "shelves"
***************************************************
Next we had to paint the shelves and the dresser
******************************************
And attach the knobs
I got clearance lettered knobs from HOBBY LOBBY for $1.49each.  His name is only 7 letters so we had to do 3 plain white knobs. His name is in the shape of an "L" on the dresser..my hub's great idea
***************************************************
And attach the shelves
***********************************************
And the finished project!
I'm so very excited to have a special place for Lincoln's books.  Let's face it, his brother has an entire library of books so I really didn't need a HUGE bookshelf in his room, just a space to place next to the rocker to store some good light reading for the little guy.

Speaking of Wire Baskets . . .

I snatched this one up at the Goodwill a long time ago, and last week it came to me how it could be best used (at the moment).

If you've looked at pictures of the nursery, then you know how many books we're constantly trying to keep up with.  And, to make matters worse, lately we've been making pretty frequent trips to the library.  I don't think I have to tell you how easily your own books can get confused with the library's.

Yep, you guessed it . . . our very own "Library Book Basket."

Is it sad that this little basket brought so much relief . . . ?
Probably.

Hair Bow Hanger

One of the most fun things about having a little girl . . . is dressing her up! I never thought I'd be a bow person, but having Ross has changed my perspective entirely. The problem has been, however, a cluttered up drawer full of hair bows.

I ran across these old hangers for a quarter a piece.

After gluing on some ribbon . . .

and a few old Scrabble letters . . .

our problem is solved!

Sewing Room Update

Or, should I say "Sewing Room." That's probably more appropriate.

Maybe one day I can truly say Sewing Room . . . but for right now my "Sewing Room" is also the Game Room, Workout Room and Ironing Room. There's no doubt we'll be in this house for a while, so I have no choice but to make the most of it.

This is my sewing spot. (And, yes, I will confess, those neatly folded stacks of fabric to the left there were straightened up only hours ago. I couldn't bare revealing what it looked like before . . .) After two years of looking this way, I do believe it's time for a bit of a change. So I'm on a mission . . .

I found this large wire basket at the thrift store the other day . . .

and brought it right home for the "sewing room."

I'm now completely obsessed with fixing this area up.
I have some ideas in the works . . . stay tuned.

Another Magazine Holder

Evidently it's been the week for magazine holders around here.

Although, that may not have been how it was originally used . . .

I'm quite happy that it is now.

Old Magazine Holder

I ran to this at the thrift store.

It came to me . . .
that it'd be perfect to store a few of the baby girl's favorite books.

Because, these days . . .

its become one of the coziest spots in the house.
