Y'all are gonna think I'm crazy...

but I added a little something new to our shelf yesterday.

hahaha...
OOOkay, let me explain.
I don't know if I told you or not, but the couple who owned this house before us had 4 children. So, needless to say, move-in week we found a lot of hidden stuff...
ONE of which happened to be a shoe...in a tree.
I spyed it there out of the corner of my eye...and couldn't help but laugh.

Silly, but I guess it was then that I realized how kinda sweet that dirty old shoe was...and everything else we happened to have found stuffed in the AC vents, smashed in the carpets, stuck to the floors, buried in the yard. Maybe it even made me realized how much this house really was loved before us.

So, it made me want to keep a small piece of that...

whatever it may be.

Up on the Shelf

As you walk into our new house, there are two identical built-in shelf spaces in the foyer...

It's the perfect place to fill them with all the old stuff we've collected up over the years...

not to mention a few thrift finds I've scored along the way.

Dressed and Ready.

I had a second to fill the shelves this weekend...although I do apologize, it was cloudy and rainy all weekend, so my pictures could have been better.
(I should have waited, but I was much too impatient.)

A Priceless Painting

I am pretty lucky to have a grandmother that paints...

Growing up, I remember her taking me into her painting studio. She'd set me up on a big stool next to her easel and show me all her fancy brush techniques. I'm no painter, but man, that used to be fun!

It's funny how a lot of times painters have their own distict style.

I could always tell immediately which ones were her paintings. Including this one.

No, this one definitely isn't a thrift find...but instead, one priceless peice of art.

The Nursery Bookshelf

Ahh, yes... I left you with this...my work in progress.
I think I've gotten settled and figured the bookshelf arrangement out.

Besides Grady's old shoes and the 2 woven baskets, all the items were thrifted or happened to be things I had. In fact, I'm afraid you would actually believe me if I told you the cost of the entire project...but, it was dirt cheap...

...and it's a good thing, too...because unfortunately, I'm going to need those extra funds for my (not so dirt cheap) fabric...

Those Gas Station Letters

Remember those gas station letters I found at the flea market a while back . . .

They finally found a home.

Up on the Shelf

After I had my advent up, I realized I usually use that big, silver tree for my "12 Days of Christmas" ornaments each year.  So I've been running around the house searching for a spot to display them.

Turns out it was kinda fun adding a bit of Christmas to the bookshelves this year.

Favorite Finds Friday

Now, I do not usually buy antiques. In fact, I usually stay far, far away from the stuff. Antiques are pricey . . . and you already know, I'm a thrifter.

However, I was shopping around one day with the family and stepped upon these . . .

Again, not my usual "thrifter" price (because you'd have to be REAL lucky to find these in the Goodwill), but I just couldn't help myself. They're just too fabulous.

Favorite Finds Friday

Books.

They vary in price from place to place . . . but each one proves good as gold when perfectly placed on a shelf.

How absolutely fabulous.
