I have to say, it's been more fun than I thought decorating a boy's room. I was a little nervous at first...stepping completely out of my element, but so far, so good.
This was the thrift store print I found about a year ago. Much to my husband's delight, it's been stashed in the garage ever since. And, I'll be honest, I was a little hesitate to buy it at $9 back then, thinking it was a bit overpriced...and even more, I didn't yet have definite plans for it.
Luckily, it seemed to all come together with the nursery...
First, I ran to the computer and printed off my words.
Next, I traced them...just like I did HERE.
Later, I colored it in using a paint pen.
Now, it hangs in the nursery...

ReplyDeleteGreat idea! It turned out so well! Even tracing, I could never get letters to look that perfect!
ReplyDeleteI promise you could! The paint pen really helps!
DeleteCOOL!
ReplyDeleteGahh! I found two painting like this yesterday and struggled with what to do with them so I didn't buy them. I just needed this post! Now I need to go back and hope they're still there. Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteRUN! RUN! Go get them!! :)
DeleteDon't feel so bad! This happens to me all the time!!
This ROCKS! What a perfect little saying for a nursery, and I'm pretty sure that little boy is going to have THE coolest changing table on the block. DYING over that piece!
ReplyDeleteTruly, this is awesome! Think of all those paintings waiting for someone to repurpose them and give them a new setting! Not only is "baby boy" lucky, but the painting is lucky to be rescued and be put in such a special setting. Good for you, and thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWould it work and be even easier to just use vinyl lettering? This looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't tried that! I'm sure it would work great!
DeleteWow-you have such a great imagination. The original photo is only so-so, but you turned it into such an amazing piece of art! And what a fun saying for a nursery! Well done, thanks so much for sharing this with us and helping us to think outside the box a bit!

Holly, Thank you for sharing - I actually have a bunch of prints like this I was planning to paint over for a blank canvas, but I love this idea too! one thing though, how do you "get the words from you computer" do you have a Font Program of some sort? i can ever seem to find cool fonts like these in plain Word. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI download free fonts from the internet...then print it off of Word! Try Dafont.com!
DeleteHope this helps a little!
What fonts did you use?

ReplyDeleteSo many virtually free pics around and my love of great quotations all rolled into one project. Perfect.
It takes a lot to catch my eye these days, but this idea is truly inspired and one to be copied at once!
Stay well

I love the juxtaposition of the painting and the saying.
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm in the process of updating some thrift shore art for a friend's birthday and have been going crazy trying to find fonts that might match. what are he fonts that you used? If you don't mind me asking. Also, did you use something to make a mock up before you landed on your final design. I'm trying so hard not to mess this up!
