A Wedding Gift

One of my sweet friends got married this weekend, and I dying to do one of those cute personalized wedding projects I've been seeing all over Pinterest . . .

I came across this old "welcome" sign at the Goodwill a while ago and had been saving it for a fun project.

After a little sanding and painting.

Although, I had a few stencils for the project, I decided to make my own for the part I was lacking. I printed my letters/numbers out on card stock and cut them with an Xacto knife. (It can be a bit tedious, but totally worth it since you can print any and every font you could imagine!)

Lastly, I painted it and sanded it.
There's really nothing better than pulling off a stencil to see the finished product!

  5. I am in LOVE with your blog! I know I've spent over an hour perusing that fabulous pictures of your home and I am dying to leave work and craft now!

When our son was born, all my side tables, knick knacks, and decor disappeared. I feel like our home is so BLAND now and I hate it. But I look at your home and it still looks so beautiful with a little one and I feel inspired to start bringing some things back to try again!

I would love to see any suggestions that you have about incorporating "family" in with the charm. I loved the way pictures in the glass jars --- that was a perfect way!

  16. How do you make the stencils? I could really use your help. Thank you!

  17. Megan, just simply print out whatever you'd like your stencil to be from Word. Then cut it out using an Xacto knife! It's a lot easier than you think! Hope this helps!

  18. Did you spray paint this? Or just use regular wood paint and brush? Love this idea!!!!

    1. Thanks so much! I believe I hand painted it, however I spray paint wood all the time! It's way faster!

  19. I love your stencil job (sans Silhouette machine!). I bought stencil paper and tried tracing it and cutting it out with an exacto knife but it didn't go well. Do you think cardstock is easier to get clean lines with? I'm not sure if my letters are too small (1.25" tall) or detailed to do by hand. I do know the pencil tracing way and it's okay but I'm not much of a freehand artist. Any thoughts?
