EASY Photo Ornaments

Well, I know you remember these from last year...

They're just so simple...and such great gifts...I can't let the season go by without a little recap.

Here's what I did:
Using plain, glass ornaments (or unbreakable...whichever you prefer)...

I simply rolled up my photo and eased it inside.

Now, let me note, you will need to experiment with the size of your photo. I used trial and error- starting large and slowly cutting down to size until it fit the way I wanted. I used a pair of tweezers and a pair of scissors to manuver it around and flatten it out. It took a little practice, so be sure you have extra copies just in case you accidentally tear one while pulling it back out. I found that rolling it back up, then twisting and pulling was the easiest way to get it back out.
Or, if you plan on making a lot of them, try creating a pattern with cardstock first, then cutting your photos the same size.

They've become a bit of a tradition around here...as a way to keep and display each year's Christmas card photo.

Mr. & Mrs. Aprons: A Gift

Grady and I attended a "His & Hers" shower this weekend for one of our good friends. I'm not quite sure why, but when thinking about what to bring, I immediately thought aprons... 

Here's what I came up with:

Step 1: Iron on adhesive paper to burlap approximately the size of a sheet paper (you can find this at any craft store).

Step 2: Cut out your burlap around the paper and shoot it through the printer. (The adhesive paper makes the burlap stiff enough to move through your printer...allowing you to print whatever font you'd like on your burlap. Maryann from Domestically Speaking has a great tutorial...however she used freezer paper...and for this particular project, it's best to use the iron-on adhesive paper. You'll see why in a bit.)

Step 3: Cut around your font and peel off the adhesive backing.


Step 4: Finish the edges with a zig-zag stitch. (Because the back is sticky/rubbery from your adhesive, it's hard to push the fabric through the sewing machine. Simply place the paper you peeled off under your fabric allowing the fabric to glide easily- being careful not to touch it with the needle.)

Step 5: Place your burlap on the apron and iron it.

Step 6: Sew your burlap to the apron using a straight stitch.

Here is the final product all put together.

Note: Unfortunately, I would imagine these aprons wouldn't wash all too well. My intentions were really just for looks, however, a solution might be painting the aprons with fabric paint instead...
