Upcycled Photo Display

If you've been with me for a while, then you might remember this old fence a sweet friend gave to me a while back...
She had several... all worn and weathered and right up my alley. In fact, I used them last fall back in our old house HERE.

I kept wondering how I might be able to use them here...
They're fun to pull out occasionally for things, but they seemed like the perfect something for hanging/changing out pictures...and I soooo need that right now.

So, while my dad was here over the weekend, he was sweet enough to help me hang them.

I settled on the wall going up our stairwell, where it's in plain view in our kitchen.

And, I gotta say, I'm pretty thrilled about it.
There's room for lots of play here.

As always, you won't be dissapointed with the other gals...so go check 'em out!

A niche...really?

When we first looked at this house, we all kinda joked about these little niches that sat tucked on either side of the front door. "How weird," I thought. Why in the world would someone need such a thing?

The people that lived here before us simply hung a single picture in each one. It was fine, but still looked a bit awkward and somewhat out of place...

For a while there I went back and forth with what I would do with the spaces, but once I recieved Fleming's little housewarming gift, I became pretty certain about at least one of them...

Mirror Wall (...in the works)

If you remember, I've been wanting to create a mirror wall in the dining room with all my thrifted mirrors. Here's where I am so far with that...

I love the fact that it has such potential to continuously grow.
If fact, I'd love to fill the whole wall up.

That buffet you see is from a little shop around here that sells redone furniture finds.
It was a steal!

I'm getting pretty close in here...

Fun Find: Chair Back?

Funny. I've had this old chair back/bottom/idk for several years now. I think I picked it up for a dollar at one of my old stores. It's been hidding beside my washing machine in the old house...hoping I'd find a good spot.  Sad to say, I couldn't ever decide exactly how I'd use it.

It finally hit me here in our new house...

This is our downstairs spare bathroom. It's tiny...basically a powder room with a tub, so it's certainly not going to take much to fill it. It ended up that the new chair bottom magazine rack was the perfect addition.

But, I gotta ask, how would you have used it?

(More on this room next week...)
Happy hunting, y'all!

Flea Find: Old Wooden Ladder

Yet another flea market find from a few months ago, finally being put to good use...

beacause, in my mind, if there's a crocheted blanket attached to it, you know something's right.

It's coming together, guys...it's coming together.

Gram's Shelves

So, when we first started in Gram's room, this was the condition of his shelves...

Since then, I've made some changes...

The chalkboard paint I showed you earlier in the week worked wonders, and it was exactly what I was hoping for...something I can change whenever I please by simply erasing.

Hahahaha...and there's a lot more where that came from....
On to the next project.

Wednesday Redo: Old Doilies

In the Christmas mood yet? I have to admit, I'm getting there...and if I keep seeing fun projects like this, I'll be there sooner than not!

How cool.
I love this.

Check out Becky's blog, Beyond the Picket Fence and find out just how she did it.

Wednesday Redo: Thrift Store Art

How very appropriate...
So simple.
Se easy.
So cheap.

Can't help but bring back memories of this little nursery project...

The Chalkboard Wall

I didn't do a whole lot of changes on this wall in the big girl room, other than the occasional chalkboard change...

And, when it is, it ususally doesn't go unnoticed.

Wednesday Redo: Thrift Paintings

It's always super fun to see the artwork in a thrift store. I'm always trying to come up with ideas on how to use it somehow.

What a great eye Melissa had when she transformed them!

Find out exactly how she did it on her blog- Ador.

Frame it.

So, the needlepoint made it up this week in the big girl room. (Turns out I was wrong about calling it embroidery...sorry about that.)
Anyway, it's up along with this sweet, sweet cross-stitch I snagged up some time ago for a couple bucks. The frames I had...and used to be in the old guest room before it became a nursery.

I used Command strips for all of it but one of the large frames. (You know how I love those...)

The verdict is still out on whether or not Ross loves it...as she hasn't made much comment. Any day now...surely. :)

How To Make a Vintage Banner

Remember those old sheets I've been collecting? Well, I finally finished my first project with them this weekend. (Quick side note: I've seen these banners done several different ways...in other words, there might be a better way out there. This is simply how I did it.)

First, I made a pattern...by hand drawing my shape.

Then, I traced and cut out all my pieces.

Next, I measured how far down I'd need to fold the fabric in order to fit a piece of twine through it.

I folded it down to my pen mark and sewed it down- backstitching at both ends. (An expert sewer would have ironed each piece down, then sewed. But, you already know, I'm not an expert sewer...so I didn't do that.)

This is what it looked like after I sewed it from the back.

And, lastly, the best part... I simply fed a long piece of twine through each piece...

and hung it on the wall.

Still working...but I'm pretty excited about it thus far...
