So Long and Farewell, Doorbell.

So, I guess you're probably either laughing . . . or rolling your eyes right about now.
But, I assure you, I have two very good reasons for this new sign . . .

ONE:
The blasted door bell "ding" is RIGHT beside Ross's room . . .  and the only time we seem get guests is inevitably when she is napping. I can't tell you how infuriating it is! She's such a light sleeper and wakes up on the drop of a dime . . . you better believe she wakes up when the UPS man dings . . . or the mailman dings . . . or the pest control dings . . .

TWO:
The doorbell is broken. *smile*

So, when I smelled the sweet smell of burnt up doorbell wires . . . I got to work.

Using a thrifted picture frame (spray painted black long ago) and Domestically Speaking's fabulous burlap printing tutorial, I made my sign.

So long and farewell, doorbell.

  1. I know exactly what you mean about the naptime "ding".... I babysit in my home and of course the door bell is on the side of the house that the kids all nap....even the parents ring the doorbell sometimes....I mean duh!!!! Why would you do that? I should really remove it too!

  2. I wish I could do this! It's so cute and the bell sets off the dog like crazy. I have a ranch though and my bedroom is all the way at the end of the house and without the bell I can't tell anyone is knocking! I've even had people in the entryway (it's a semi porch) looking into the kitchen when our doorbell was broken!

  3. You are SO smart! All of Ann's friends would ring the doorbell while Lauren would nap... and I mean everyday!! I guess that is one teeny weeny draw back of living in a neighborhood full of kids. I wouldn't trade it for the world, though! Hope she has some sound sleep coming her way!

  7. Super cute, I love your new sign. I remember when my kids were little, what a problem the door bell seemed to be when they were napping. Perfect solution.

  8. Very cute! I hate when UPS or FedEx make such a commotion at the door. They always knock like there's an emergency AND ring the bell. Is that necessary?! Lol.

Thanks for linking up at A Pinteresting Party. Giving this a pin!

  9. Ah! Love this!! I have been wanting to disconnect my doorbell for a long time now, so perhaps I will try something like this.

  10. Doorbells are the worst for sleeping babies. I need to break mine, too. :)

  11. I TOTALLY know where you're coming from. We actually put a sign on the door, saying 'please don't knock, call 555-4102' and people STILL knocked, the dogs went crazy, woke the sleeping babies and made momma MAD!!! only when the kids were sleeping though... truly amazing. love your sign. very sweet.

  12. I would love to get rid of the doorbell! I can never hear it anyway because the chime is upstairs and I'm usually downstairs. Very cute idea with the sign. Thanks for linking up!

  16. LOVE this!!! Our doorbell isn't working but the last time we had the exterior of the house painted the painters painted over the doorbell and no one can find it! I just may follow your lead! Have a great week

  17. Great idea! Our doorbell is purely decoration as it hasn't worked ever. On top of that we have a giant lion head knocker with a ring in its mouth and the ring doesn't reach the door. So I usually hear a creaking of the ring sliding on metal. I know the visitors are really confused, "doorbell? No...lion head? No...hmmm..."
I think I need a sign to end the confusion. Though my sign might read,"go away."

  18. So cute - you could even just put it out when baby is sleeping if your doorbell is working!

  19. This is adorable! We live in a mountain cabin and don't have a doorbell. I hung a cowbell outside but no one seem to use it (or find the humor in it) so I guess I need a "please ring" sign above it!

  20. Our doorbell is broken too, but I just couldn't bear to put up a tacky handwritten sign. I LOVE this idea! I think I'll have to make one for our house.

  21. That is such a cute sign! That happens to us all the time with my little boy. Its like everyone "knows" its naptime so they feel the need to come ring the doorbell!! I am going to have to make something like this!
I currently have a link party going and would love for you to share this and anything else you would like!

  25. We've lived in our home for 8 years, and have never had a doorbell. We do have a anchor that acts as a knocker that the UPS/FedEx guys use with much force.

I'm #800. :) Glad to have found you!

  40. Gone are the old days when a knock at the door would be enough to alert homeowners about the presence of a visitor. The Liztek wireless doorbell comes in to save the day. This device is a convenient doorbell choice. With a range of up to 1000 feet, you are assured not to miss a single visitor. It's hassle-free as you just need to plug it into a power outlet and it begins to function.
