(Can you spot those shovels?)

Tried & True Pinterest Recipes

I've found myself going straight to the computer these days for a recipe, and I've tried quite a few, here lately. I thought I'd give you a heads-up...

Super good! Even the fried rice recipe is to die for!
I've never been able to cook fried rice correctly! She's got it down!

Super good. I've made it at least three times now...one of which was for a large crowd with kids, and even the kids ate it!

Easy go-to for kids. Ross gobbles them up every time!

Such a clever take on the traditional chicken noodle soup!
Quick, easy and flavorful.

Fun and simple!
Great for supper or appetizers.

Clearly, you can't go wrong with chicken and cheese,
but the added kick of spice takes it to the next level. Definitely a winner!

I've found this to be a great, little side dish...and makes fabulous lunch leftovers!

I couldn't tell you how many times I've made this salad!
It is TO-DIE-FOR! It will always and forever be my most favorite salad!

Pretty sweet, but pretty darn fabulous.
Several people asked me for the recipe at a recent Christmas get together.

Homemade Croutons

I know what you're thinking...this isn't a food blog.
And, you're right. I rarely blog about food...unless it's something that I'm completely obsessed with.

Meet the most mouthwatering...sinfully delicious...yet surprisingly healthy- croutons.

Surely, this has happened to you?
The infamous leftover hotdog buns.
Mine, of course, always end up in the freezer...where they sit...and sit...and sit...never to be used because usually I forget they're there and end up buying a new pack at the store...which in turn produces yet another bag of leftover buns. yay.

Solution: Homemade Croutons.

Ingredients:
5-6 leftover hotdog buns, cubed (It's helpful if the bread has been frozen and thawed a bit- allowing the bread to be a bit firmer for cutting.)
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1/4 c olive oil
10+ basil leaves, chopped
salt/pepper

1. Finely chop 2 garlic cloves and mix with 1/4 cup olive oil.
2. Microwave the mixture for about 15 seconds. (This really opens up the garlic flavor!)

3. Chop up about 10 basil leaves.

4. Stir oil mixture and basil together.
5. Add about 1 tsp salt and a few dashes of pepper.

6. Mix together cubed bread and basil mixture.
7. Lay flat on a greased cookie sheet and cook at 325 for 25 minutes.

This is what they might look like...that is, if you haven't eaten them all before supper.

A Skillet Sensation!

Okay.  I know this isn't much of a "thrifty" post, but I had to tell someone . . .
I have fallen in love with my cast iron skillet. So much so, that I even gave one to a friend at a wedding shower this week.

I will say, I do enjoy cooking especially with a large glass of wine and the music blaring, but it's only been since last Christmas that I really started using a cast iron skillet.  You may have seen in the last Southern Living a little recipe called "Easy Skillet Apple Pie". . .
I wish I could describe how TO DIE FOR it was. Instead, I'll just reassure you, IT WAS TO DIE FOR.

So, because I can't get that skillet out of my mind, here are a few links to recipes that might inspire YOU to pick up a cast iron skillet this week.

(Seriously, y'all, TO DIE FOR.)
(This recipe includes skillet care directions, too!)

Hmmm . . . now where did I put that wine glass?
