Mod Podge a Poster

Well, the final preparations for the party are underway...
I chose to use a blown-up picture (poster) as the main display for Ross's (ice cream) party.
This is what I did...

Step 1: Get a photo blown-up to poster size (I did this at Office Depot for around $20) as well as a cut piece of plywood (from Lowes or Home Depot for $10...and you'll get A LOT of extra wood for future projects). You'll need to measure the size of your photo and get your plywood cut 1/2 to 1 inch larger for each measurement.

Step 2: Spray paint your plywood a corresponding color to your photo. I chose black simply because I put a black vignette around mine when editing the photo.

Step 3: Trim the white edges of your poster. (However, you could have painted the plywood white, and left the white edges...)

Step 4: Paint Mod Podge on both your plywood and the back of your poster.

Step 5: Using a roller of some kind (a rolling pin would work well too), roll out any air bubbles. I found that it helped to start in the middle and roll out.

Step 6: Paint Mod Podge over the entire thing. I did 2 coats.

And after it dries...this is what it should look like.

I'm dying to get it up at the party!

  16. I've seen enlarged photos like this floating around blogland using engineering? prints- supposedly only cost a few bucks. I'm wondering how well they hold up and how easy they are to use. Would love to do something like this!

  33. This is so cute! Thrifty tip - if you print this at Staples as an enginner print it cost a lot less. Only works for black and white pics but I did this the other month and think I paid 5bucks for the largest print which was 36x48. The smallest (18x24) is 1.99!

  34. I love all these posters and prints that people like you have done! In all of my attempts, the Mod Podge dried *literally* instantaneously...resulting in many ruined boards, posters, and rollers. It's gotten too expensive for me to keep failing, but oh is your photo so lovely :)

  37. This is amazing, thank you for sharing. I had a question, you said poster size but is it poster quality? I was thinking of doing a marilyn monroe poster on canvas

  38. I have a question for you. I have tried several times to "upcycle" a wooden coffee table with a paper poster....only to have it full of air bubbles. I have tried modge podge on the wood and the poster, I have tried modge podge only on the wood then top layer and I have tried using the spray adhesive and modge podge on the top....always get air bubbles. I have tried paint brush, foam brush and roller. Still bubbles. I have tried a lot of modge podge and just a little bit. It doesn't seem to make much difference on the poster. I seem to get air bubbles/creases in my poster. Any suggestions?
