HELLO Sunshine!

Surely you all have been sitting on the edge of your seats dying to know what I did with my pallet canvas...??? :)

Well, let me just start off by saying, Michael, YOU inspired me!
If you haven't seen his 'from wood to wall' post, then you should. TO DIE FOR. Really and truly everything he's done is...but it was that project that made me get my paint brush out.

Here's what I did:

Step 1: Freehand your image...in this case, a sun. (I wanted it to look folkart-esk, so I didn't worry much about perfectly, straight lines.)

Step 2: Get out all your left over paints...mix them around...and create various shades.

Step 3: Paint, paint, paint.

Step 4: Stencil on your outline...if words are what you want.
For a more detailed description on this, click here.

Step 5: Paint and sand.

It sits waiting to be hung on the porch...as the porch has become my latest project...

"One" Deceiving Tablecloth

I feel so fortunate that our neighborhood has the sweetest little barn to use for parties and such, which really comes in handy come birthday time! And, on top of that, it even comes equipped with an old table! However, like I said, it is old...and well, it absolutely needs to be covered. This is a pretty simple fix...except that I couldn't get past trying to cover up the legs of the table too. My goal was to make something that would touch the ground.

After measuring the table (roughly 100x30), I ended up cutting 2 pieces of burlap (both at about 160+ inches long) and ironing a fold at both ends. (I left the long sides unfinished.)

Then, I finished the folded ends by simply sewing a straight stitch all the way down.

Here are both panels of burlap placed on the table. I didn't sew them together. I only placed them side by side on the table, in the hopes that it would appear to be one long piece of fabric.

The problem, of course, is that this shows on top of the table...all the way down. BUT, if all goes as planned with the decorations and such, you shouldn't see this at all.

I think I'll be happy in the long run I did this...it feels clean and finished...and ready for a party. :)

We still have a bit of cleaning to do down there, but it's certainly nothing that we can't handle...

A Pallet Canvas

I finally got my hands on some pallets. I'm a bit embarrassed it's taken me this long...since they're so ridiculously abundant. But, my thrift store guy (more commonly know as "Mr. Clemson"...simply because he's decked-out in Clemson gear from head to toe every. single. day.) offered to break me up a few, and well, you know I couldn't resist.

(Plus, it gave me an excuse to bust out the jigsaw again...)

I've been dying to do some sort of art on pallets for a long, long time...so, in order to make myself a canvas, I had plans to finagle something sort of like this...

...which should have involved just a small amount of hammering...

...but ended up being a lot.

However, I prevailed, and I now have a pallet canvas ready to be painted.

"Ice Cream" Cupcake Toppers

Remember those cupcake toppers I was debating about? I love them all. However, none of them screamed ice cream. (No pun intended.)

So, I came up with something else.

Here's what you'll need:

Step 1: After punching out several white circles, I painted a small cone on each one. (I promise this isn't difficult- and took about 10 minutes!)

Step 2: Glue the circle to your scalloped cut-out.
Step 3: Glue the lollipop stick to the back.

Step 4: Cut out several little squares from your crepe paper and roll it into a ball.

Step 5: Glue it on.

The count down is on!
